"The first condition is to understand the universe is a communion of subjects, not a collection of objects. Every being has it's own inner forms, its own spontaneity, it's own voice, it's ability to declare itself and to be present to other components of the universe in a subject to subject relationship. Whereas this is true of every being in the universe, it is especially true of each component member of the Earth community. Each component of the Earth is integral with every other component. This is also true of the living beings of the Earth in relation with one another."
